A true paradise of land and sea: Domaine de Rochevilaine, Billiers

Contardi has created uniquely atmospheric lighting for this tranquil marine haven in southern Brittany

The Domaine de Rochevilaine – a luxury hotel and spa set on a rocky peninsula in the Bay of Morbihan, Brittany – takes its name from the geographic location at the point of Pen Lan, where the Vilaine river joins the ocean. This is a unique architectural ensemble of historic residences; a sort of reconstructed Breton hamlet where rooms and suites have magical views of the ocean, and each one tells a story linked to the past and local heritage.

Last November, under the direction of Bertrand Jaquet, the owner, and the talent of interior designer Chantal Peyrat, the Domaine de Rochevilaine underwent a complete transformation of its characteristic building, the Renaissance Manor, to suffuse it with modernity and renewal while preserving its soul and personality. The rooms born from this renovation promise to transport their guests into a private world that combines the freedom of space, great refinement, and spectacular views.

The colour scheme of one of the grand suites, named after the famous old ship “Belle de Vilaine”, has evolved around the ochre-orange hue that recalls the tone of its sails. Contardi’s iconic Arcipelago suspension lights, designed by Servomuto, with their unmistakable shade featuring Trevira fringes, have been selected in the Rust tone, to marry with the rest of the decor. The exquisite simplicity and charm of the Belle suspension, designed by Staffan Tollgard, make a subtle statement in the other suites.

“Even closer to the sea” was the key guideline given to the designer, for renovating the hotel’s gourmet restaurant. The much-loved nostalgic glow of the Muse Lantern wall lights, conceived by Tristan Auer, has been chosen for the three adjoining rooms, which are lined with 50 metres of panoramic windows on the edge of the rocks. Taking inspiration from 18th-century street lighting, this lamp offers a romantic day-to-night solution – transporting visitors into an enchanted atmosphere that proves to be an unforgettable experience, for both its ambience and its food.
