Contardi reimagines vintage lamps to give a nostalgic feel to the hotel’s interiors, inspired by the great classics of Italian cinema

The first Hoxton hotel opened in Shoreditch, East London, in 2006, followed by other branches in Europe and in North America’s key locations. In May 2021 the Hoxton group launched its tenth hotel, in the Eternal City. The Hoxton Rome is located in the upscale Parioli district, which is famous for its prestigious buildings, ice cream parlours and trattorias, and just a stone’s throw away from cultural hot spots.

London-based Ennismore Design Studio has curated the hotel’s interiors by radically transforming the 1970s building into one of “The Hoxtons”. Spread over seven floors, the hotel is inspired by La Dolce Vita and the great classics of Italian cinema, which showcased Rome in the 1950s. Hoxton Rome’s design concept has sought to incorporate significant elements of the setting and the neighbourhood architecture; these were reinterpreted in a new key, instilling a sense of familiarity that unites all the Hoxton hotels, giving them an authentic relationship with respect to the context that hosts them. The interior decor features rustic parquet flooring, lacquered beams and local stone. All slightly different from each other, the rooms boast precious wood panelling, a custom-designed headboard and an eclectic mix of furnishings.

In this all-round hospitality project, Ennismore has chosen Contardi to create bespoke lightingin various areas of the establishment, as the company is famous for a sartorial approach combined with high-end innovative technology. The lamps, designed specifically for Hoxton Rome, sympathetically interpret the Mid-Century look that the interior designers had in mind. In the lounge and restaurant areas, Contardi’s bespoke suspension lights feature a geometric structure in a dark bronze finish, with glass globes as dominant shapes that add a fun space-age feel to the ambiance; while in the guestrooms, premium fabric lampshades with exposed contrast stitching and stylish decorative details complete the picture. The lights have a vintage look, yet they encapsulate the concept of modern functionality that makes the interiors even more welcoming.

Aiming to add an element of uniqueness to the ambiance, Contardi has also been commissioned to adapt and renew pre-existing lamps, giving them a new lease of life. This approach goes hand in hand with the overall vintage décor theme of the hotel, and marries perfectly with Contardi’s commitment towards sustainable production and a greener attitude.
